02 — The real world

A crime wave without a face

Tokuryū (匿流) is the Japanese police term for “anonymous and fluid” criminal groups — networks with no tattoos, no headquarters and no fixed membership.

Recruiters post “dark part-time jobs” on social media. Strangers are hired by app for a single fraud, robbery or delivery, then discarded. The architects stay invisible.

TOKURYŪ is fiction, built on that reality.

03 — The story

The best engineer no one has ever noticed

Koji Nakamura is twenty-eight, gifted and invisible — one of two hundred engineers in a Tokyo tower where nobody knows his name. Then an anonymous voice offers what Tokyo never has: recognition, and two million yen a month.

The job comes with a one-way ticket to Hong Kong, an apartment wired with three monitors, and a cover: busing tables at Feng’s, a family restaurant in Mong Kok. By night he builds the hidden machinery of a network with no face. By day he breaks plates under the eye of Su, the owner’s sharp, restless daughter — the first person who truly sees him.

In Tokyo, detective Yu Tanaka is tracing a franchise of fraud back to a single architect.

Disappearing was the easy part. Being seen will cost him everything.

Order, glass and silence. Long lenses compress the crowd until one man disappears inside it. Fluorescent light that never changes.

Noise, neon and heat. Handheld energy, wok fire and a city that builds on top of itself and never sleeps.

01

Visibility

Who gets seen in a city of millions — and what a person will do to finally be noticed.

02

Crime as a gig

Violence ordered by app and carried out by strangers. Everyone touches it. No one owns it.

03

Belonging

To a family, to a city, to the one person who looks up when you walk in.

06 — Look & sound

The screens are the third city

Image 15 · The screens

The screens

The network is rendered as light on faces. Monitors, phones and CCTV feeds carry the suspense — tension in a cursor, not an explosion.

Image 16 · Wok fire

Two palettes

Tokyo: cold fluorescent white and locked-off symmetry. Hong Kong: warm practicals, red and amber neon, a restless handheld camera.

Image 17 · The rooftop

The hum

A low electronic hum — the breathing of invisible servers — set against one lo-fi track from a cheap speaker. The only warmth Koji owns.

07 — Director

Seeking a director

A filmmaker who can hold a city’s noise and a man’s silence in the same frame.

The profile

  • Command of Japanese- and/or Cantonese-language filmmaking, and at ease on a trilingual set
  • Genre precision — suspense built through performance, editing and sound rather than spectacle
  • An eye for both cities: the stillness of Tokyo and the density of Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong- or Japan-based directors preferred

What is in place

  • A completed feature screenplay
  • A producing company with offices in Tokyo and Hong Kong
  • A production plan built around shooting in both cities
  • A genuine creative partnership on casting, look and sound from day one

08 — Casting
